Good luck to the campaign. I hope the council changes it’s mind and comes up with the support.

This is a really shame. The panto is a tradition in our family and i’m sure for others too.

As a previous theatre student in the most cultural city in the UK i would have thought that saving national treasures such as this would have been top on the agenda.

Good luck with this campaign. I can’t believe that SNP Cllr Steve Cardwonie will allow the Kings to close – shame on him if he lets the LibDems bully him into this

My Dad and I both worked at the King’s – my Dad (Pat McCann) being the resident musical director there for many years. The Musicians Union erected a plaque in his memory in the foyer. I have a fair amount of memorabilia and many wonderful memories of the artists and staff who have worked there over the years.
But to get down to brass tacks – every year I try to book Panto tickets for my kids earlier and earlier (this year it was in the summer) but haven’t been able to get a seat on a Saturday in December. I have now been advised to book a year in advance! Most companies would kill for that sort of success!
Where’s the logic there?

It will be a real loss to the cultural life of Edinburgh if the King’s closes. The Council clearly has its priorities wrong when we see the amount of money being wasted on changing roundabouts to traffics lights, and putting in speed humps. One has no confidence that the profitability of the new tram system has been thoroughly researched.
Coincidentally, the King’s management never bother to put the name of a current attraction in lights at canopy level over the entrance.

I used to work at the Kings theatre and know that it would be a great loss if it was forced to close, keep up the good work

The Kings is a fabulous theatre and more, not less, use should be made of it. As a local resident I wholeheartedly endorse your campaign and trust the Council will review its priorities urgently. Good luck!

I very much doubt that the King’s will close in 2 years. I’d be interested to know exactly what it is that will force it to close. Certianly not a lack of a £20million upgrade. There’s loads of good casues out there that could do with £20 million but council tax payers shouldn’t be expected to stump up all the time. Sell more tickets outside panto season maybe?

John Stalker, the chief executive of the trust that runs The King’s on behalf of the Council, told the Evening News: “If there’s no significant work taken on the building in the next couple of years it will have to close…” – Reports in the Evening News stated that there is no threat and this seemed to be welcomed all round. I didn’t see that article on the news page of this site. Surely it’s good news? Are you going to update site?

Who gives a flying pig about a run down theatre that doesn’t stop kids causing trouble in the schemes and doesn’t ‘deserve’ any special treatment. If a business doesn’t stand on it’s own two feet it folds….
Lets get the arts and other positive activities like sport into the local schools and community directly.

If Lord Hee-Haw – For Foulkes Sake is behind it then the majority of the city are against it.
